STATEMENT FROM THE MORGAN COUNTY R-II SCHOOL DISTRICT

Messages such as this are so difficult to deliver to our school community. The Morgan County R-II School District is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our students Ryan Simpson. Ryan would have been a Junior at VHS in the 2025-2026 school year. Ryan passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident Friday evening. During this incredibly difficult time, our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Ryan’s family, friends, and all those who were touched by his presence. 

The loss of a young life is a devastating event, and it can have a profound impact on the student’s friends, classmates, and broader school community. In light of this, we are offering counseling services to support grieving students and staff. These services will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the high school commons, Monday, June, 9. This space is meant to be a time for students and staff to come together, share, and receive support. 

It is crucial that students are given the opportunity to process their emotions and talk through their feelings in an age-appropriate way. We encourage parents and guardians to engage in conversations with their children over the next few days, listening attentively to their thoughts and observing any changes in their behavior. 

Please know that our district is here to support your family during this time of grief. If you would like additional support from the school or would like a list of community resources, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are committed to assisting families in any way we can as they navigate the emotional impact of this loss. 

Ryan was an active member of our school community and participated in our athletic programs and DECA. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. 

We deeply appreciate the care and concern shown by our community. Please continue to keep Ryan Simpson’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they face this difficult time.
